Research Activity @ ABS

research (1)

From Obama’s success to the Arab spring, from Kolaveri Di in India to Gangnam style, social media is omnipresent. We no longer go to the news, news finds us; we no longer visit merchandise, merchandise find us; social media has shrunk the globe beyond imagination. Social media is based on the combined notion of influence and participation – tools that synchronize their voice with the company’s voice and that combined voice affects the next customer. The development of social media networks have made it feasible for the customers to speak to thousands of other customers concerning a particular brand or a company.

Growing popularity of Facebook has made it a value-adding marketing channel for the small and medium sized businesses. As a marketing medium characterized by low cost and minimum risk it attracts small scale entrepreneurs to utilize this new platform i.e. brand fan page of Facebook as a business communication tool for reaching out to customers.

Considering the significance of Facebook as social media marketing platform for businesses and the lack of understanding of this area, a research was conducted by Ms. Chetna Kudeshia (Assistant Professor – Asian Business School) wherein she conducted a research to identify the significant relationship between brands “liked” on the Facebook fan pages and brand love, word of mouth, and purchase intention from potential buyer perspective. The research was conducted taking five popular small scale entrepreneur backed firms on the basis of the number of likes on their fan pages. The study reveals a positive relationship between “liked” brands on Facebook fan-page and brand love. Further, the study finds that liking the fan pages is essentially converted into WOM, and it results into purchase proposition.

The Paper which is titled “Spreading love through fan page liking: A perspective on small scale entrepreneurs” by Ms. Chetna Kudeshia (Assistant Professor – Asian Business School) has been published in an International Journal – Computers in Human Behavior, Elsevier in Vol. 54 (2016),pp. 257-270. This is another feather in the cap in the research area at Asian Business School.

Workshop on Marketing @ Asian Business School

_DSC0278

If business is all about people and money and the art of persuading one to part from the other, then marketing is all about finding the right people to persuade.

Marketing is the science and art of exploring, creating, and delivering value to satisfy the needs of a target market at a profit.

According to Kotler – Marketing is too often confused with selling. Selling is only the tip of the marketing iceberg.  What is unseen is the extensive market investigation, the research and development of appropriate products, the challenge of pricing them right, of opening up distribution, and of letting the market know about the product.

Marketing is the groundwork the company does to figure out what people need and what the company should make. It is not a short-term selling effort but a long-term investment effort.  Marketing works as the wheel for any organisation. A well planned marketing strategy establishes the organization for the foreseeable future for its products and services and it continues long after the sale is completed.

Given its importance in the workplace, the CRC Department at Asian Business School organized a workshop on Marketing for the PGDM 2014-16 batch on August 26, 2015. The workshop focused and discussed the key processes of marketing such as: (1) opportunity identification, (2) product/ service development, (3) customer attraction, (4) customer retention and loyalty building, and (5) order fulfilment.

We wish all the students who have taken marketing as their specialization good luck for their future endeavours.

Digital Marketing

As global competition intensifies, an organization’s performance and strategic positioning will become more dependent upon its ability to successfully exploit information technologies.”

DOHERTY AND ELLISCHADWICK

Digital marketing is an umbrella term for the targeted, measurable, and interactive marketing of products or services using digital technologies to reach and convert leads into customers. The key objective is to promote brands, build preference and increase sales through various digital marketing techniques.

So, why digital marketing?

First of all, digital marketing is infinitely more affordable than traditional offline marketing methods. An email or social media campaign, for example, can transmit a marketing message to consumers for the merest fraction of the cost of a TV ad or print campaign, and potentially reach a wider audience. But one of the main benefits of conducting your marketing digitally is the ease with which results can be tracked and monitored.

The 3RD International Conference “ I-CODE-2015” –  “Digitization Of Economy” organized by the Research & Development Cell in August 2015 brought together leading experts from the industry and the conference proved to be an excellent opportunity for networking and sharing experiences and opinions on the Digitization of Economy. The conference attracted academicians and industry experts presented their research and papers on the topic.

At Asian School of Business, a diploma in Digital Marketing would enable students to understand how to use the internet as an effective marketing channel. It would enable them to engage with customers online in a more practical manner and to plan and implement end-to-end lead generation through the online mode.

Workshop on Emotional Intelligence @ Asian Business School

news-a

When the Harvard Business Review published an article on Emotional Intelligence, it attracted a higher percentage of readers than any other article published in that periodical in the last 40 years. When the CEO of Johnson & Johnson read that article, he was so impressed that he had copies sent out to the 400 top executives in the company worldwide.

So, what exactly is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize one’s own and other people’s emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behaviour. ‘Emotional Intelligence’ is about being honest, being aware of one’s own feeling, being aware of the other’s feelings and about being smart with one’s emotions.

Emotional intelligence helps to manage stress. It is vital for enhanced cooperation and teamwork, and it helps individuals to learn in relationships. Our ability to work together is profoundly impacted by our emotions, and this requires an ability to self-soothe, connect, and integrate in workplace relationships. While skills and experience may get us the job, our EQ will ultimately determine how well we succeed and how far we rise in the organization.

Given the importance of Emotional Intelligence in the workplace, the CRC department at Asian Business School organized a workshop for the PGDM 2014-16 batch on Emotional Intelligence. Different aspects of Emotional Intelligence like its impact on one’s personality, its affect on an individual’s attitude, etc were discussed extensively during the session. Various activities on Self Management, Self Awareness, Self Regulation, etc were conducted to enhance the understanding of the students.

The workshop gave the students an insight into why it is important to connect with your colleagues and what is the importance of hiring individuals with High EI.

Project Presentation @ Oxford Business College, UK

news-a

A presentation is a means of communication which can be adapted to various speaking situations, such as talking to a group, addressing a meeting or briefing a team. To be effective, step-by-step preparation and the method and means of presenting the information should be carefully considered.
Presenting information clearly and effectively is a key skill to get your message or opinion across and, today, presentation skills are required in almost every field. Delivering an inspirational or captivating presentation requires a lot of preparation and work
The PGDM 2013-15 batch was required to present their projects to the faculty members at Oxford Business College and the zeal and enthusiasm with which they presented their projects rightfully earned them their Diploma in International Business. Mentioned below are few techniques they utilized to ensure that their presentation was successful:

  • Preparation: It is imperative to be prepared before presenting anything to an audience. One needs to ensure that a substantial amount of time is spent in practising the content delivery before the final presentation.
  • Use examples and anecdotes: Instead of using long drawn terms and theories, use examples and narrate anecdotes and derive the meaning or the understanding from them. This encourages audience interaction and helps you relate to your audience. This requires preparation as you would need to know who your audience is.
  • Be calm and composed: To be calm and composed, you need to be prepared. It is imperative to know your content. Without content and knowledge, you cannot deliver an effective presentation.
  • Plan your delivery: Plan how you will stand and what gestures and expressions you will use during the presentation. This requires the study of the presentation you have prepared. Sometimes, effective presentation delivery may not even require a PPT running on the projector.
  • Use humour only when required: You are not a stand up comedian. Don’t act like one during a presentation. Use humour naturally. However, don’t make fun of anyone in the audience. They make not take it in the same spirit.
  • Be organised: Organise the content of your presentation. Organise your thoughts. The delivery should always be well structured. You should know exactly what you want to say and the order in which you want to say it.  Clarity of ideas and good organisation should result in a lively, logical and compelling message.

Kudos to all the students who gave an energetic presentation!  We are proud of you. We wish you all the best for all future endeavours.

Asianites @ The London Eye

news-a

The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. Also known as the Millennium Wheel, the entire structure is 135 metres (443 ft) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres (394 ft). When erected in 1999, it was the world’s tallest Ferris wheel.  Supported by an A-frame on one side only, the Eye is described by its operators as “the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel”.

The London Eye was designed by architects Frank Anatole, Nic Bailey, Steve Chilton, Malcolm Cook, Mark Sparrowhawk, and the husband-and-wife team of Julia Barfield and David Marks. The rim of the Eye is supported by tensioned steel cables and resembles a huge spooked bicycle wheel. The wheel’s 32 sealed and air-conditioned ovoid passenger capsules are attached to the external circumference of the wheel and rotated by electric motors. Each of the 10-tonne capsules represents one of the London Boroughs, and holds up to 25 people, who are free to walk around inside the capsule, though seating is provided.

Students of Asian Business School were delighted when they visited The London Eye. This attraction gave them a spectacular view of the entire city including all the major monuments and buildings.  It was a perfect experience to see whole city from high place and indeed a memorable moment.

Pre-independence Day Celebration

p-i

On the 14th of August 2015, a pre-independence day celebration was held at  Asian Business School.

A host of activities were lined up to commemorate this day beginning with a rangoli competition, when one could not deny the dexterity with which colours and ideas were brought to life on the floors of the central hall. Kite making  contest, again proved the adroitness and skill with which our students worked.

At the amphitheatre students rendered a beautiful musical medley of patriotic songs which was followed by a series of street plays ‘nukkad natak’ dealing with social issues , handled most gracefully. This colourful palette  also included a number of games  for the students at the venue .

The close of this eventful day was solemnized with a wonderful rendition of the National Anthem in the presence of Director Dr. Lalitya Vir Srivastava, Director – Admissions Mr. Gurdeep Singh Raina and Director Branding Mr Saurabh Sharma ,which was followed with the distribution of sweets.

The fervor and enthusiasm with which the students participated, mirrored their homage and respect to the millions who sacrificed their lives  for freeing India from the clutches of the British 300 years ago.
