Asianites @Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

news

Madame Tussauds is a major tourist attraction in London, displaying waxworks. Madame Tussauds wax museum has now grown to become a major tourist attraction in London, incorporating (until 2010) the London Planetarium in its west wing. Today’s wax figures at Tussauds include historical and royal figures, film stars, sports stars and famous murderers.

The attraction’s history is a rich and fascinating one, with roots dating back to the Paris of 1770. It was here that Madame Tussaud learnt to model wax likenesses under the tutelage of her mentor, Dr Philippe Curtius.  Madame Tussaud came to Britain in the early 19th century alongside a travelling exhibition of revolutionary relics and effigies of public heroes and rogues.

Millions and millions of people have flocked through the doors of Madame Tussauds since they first opened over 200 years ago and it remains just as popular as it ever was. There are many reasons for this enduring success, but at the heart of it all is good, old-fashioned curiosity. Today’s visitors are sent on a unique, emotionally-charged journey through the realms of the powerful and famous. The museum-style ropes and poles have gone so guests can truly get up, close and personal with A-list celebrities, sporting legends, political heavyweights and historical icons, reliving the times, events and moments that made the world talk about them.

Students of Asian Business School were delighted when they visited the museum. The life like wax figures were so realistic that one could easily greet them and expect a response. With Indian and international celebrities adorning the halls of Madame Tussauds, it was indeed a memorable day spent in London.

Importance of Group Discussion in a Screening Process

news1

Why do employers conduct group discussions? What is the need to conduct a group discussion when a candidate may have appeared for an aptitude test? What does a company expect from its employees? The answer is simple. Teamwork and interpersonal skills, communication, leadership, assertiveness, flexibility, reasoning ability and out of the box thinking, etc., reflect one’s personality traits and soft skills. GD’s are a powerful way of assessing a candidate’s personality and soft skills.

Prior to a GD, the assessment of a candidate by his potential employer is based on his resume and aptitude test scores and the employer has no way to judge the above mentioned critical attributes of the candidate.

With the PGDM 2014-16 batch preparing for the upcoming placement season, below are a few key steps which will enable them to succeed in a Group Discussion:

  • Be well versed about recent events and news around the world
  • Practice public speaking by involving yourself in presentations.
  • Be well groomed and have a professional attire
  • Be confident and calm
  • Be polite and mature in your approach during the discussion
  • Be alert at all times during the discussion
  • Speak clearly, correctly and confidently
  • Do not be repetitive. Listen attentively to all the points being discussed so as to avoid this mistake
  • Speak when you feel you have something to contribute. Speaking for the sake of it will not get you the points.

We wish all the students the best of luck as they gear up to prepare for the upcoming placement season.

Who is an Entrepreneur?

who-is-an-entrepreneur

What is entrepreneurship? The capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit. The most obvious example of entrepreneurship is the starting of new businesses.

An entrepreneur supplies risk capital as a risk taker, and monitors and controls the business activities. The entrepreneur is usually a sole proprietor, a partner, or the one who owns the majority of shares in an incorporated venture.

But what does it take to succeed as an entrepreneur—and how should an entrepreneur define success? With a lot of Asian Business School alumni successfully running their business ventures, below are some of the points they mention one needs to know for being a successful entrepreneur:

  • Be passionate about your work: This means you are willing to make sacrifices in the initial stages of your business venture. Brain storm and identify the techniques and come up with ideas which will enable you to become successful.
  • Be thoroughly focused: Focus is very important when you are planning to set up your own enterprise. This focus and intensity helps to eliminate wasted effort and distractions. Don’t indulge in too many things at the same time, instead focus on the key things which will help you jumpstart your business.
  • Work hard and harder: People with luck will tell you there’s no easy way to achieve success—and that luck comes to those who work hard. Successful entrepreneurs always give 100 percent of their efforts to everything they do. If you know you are giving your best effort, you’ll never have any reason for regrets. Keep your focus on things you can control.
  • Be patient: Rome wasn’t built in a day. There is no such thing as overnight success
  • Be persistent and flexible: Every entrepreneur has to be agile in order to perform. You have to continually learn and adapt as new information becomes available. At the same time you have to remain persistent to the cause and mission of your enterprise.
  • Be a team player: No individual can be good at everything. Everyone needs people around them who have complementary skill sets. Find individuals who will compliment your passions and zeal with their hard work.
  • Be honest and show integrity: No one has ever achieved success without being honest. These two qualities need to be at the core of everything we do.
  • Never sacrifice on quality: Whatever you do, always deliver the best that you have to offer.

We wish all the budding entrepreneurs all the best.

A day in London

At Asian Business School, we believe in learning through experience and exploration. With the PGDM 2013-15 batch nearing the end of their educational tour, below are fun facts regarding some of the attractions visited by the students:

The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. The entire structure is 135 metres (443 ft) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres (394 ft). Supported by an A-frame on one side only, the Eye is described by its operators as “the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel”. It is currently Europe’s tallest Ferris wheel, and offered the highest public viewing point in London. The London Eye adjoins the western end of Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank of the River Thames between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge, in the London Borough of Lambeth. The wheel’s 32 sealed and air-conditioned ovoid passenger capsules are attached to the external circumference of the wheel and rotated by electric motors.

Buckingham Palace is the London residence and principal workplace of the monarchy of the United Kingdom. Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is often at the centre of state occasions and royal hospitality. It has been a focus for the British people at times of national rejoicing. The original early 19th-century interior designs, many of which still survive, included widespread use of brightly colored scagliola and blue and pink lapis. The state rooms, used for official and state entertaining, are open to the public each year for most of August and September, as part of the Palace’s Summer Opening.

We hope you had a fun filled learning experience.
